Double Your Site’s Revenue – Scott Wainner on Web Business

Ask anyone who knows me: I’m the world’s pickiest eater.  I’ll eat anywhere that’s well rated on Yelp, but typically I only “trust” a handful of restaurants both for quality of food and safety, I don’t want to get sick from dining out. If you’re in the SF Bay Area and plan to take a trip through the world famous Napa Valley, which I am fortunate enough to call home, you can’t go wrong with any of these restaurants. I’ve eaten at these places dozens of times each on average, all are great and I’ve never gotten sick eating at any of them though there are other places in Napa that have made me sick so stick to these! :) These places are in no particular order, they’re all good and I’ll pick one over another based on my mood.

Wine Train – $$$$

This is a 3 hour experience on an historic train that lets you dine as you travel up and down the Napa valley. I recommend the Champagne dome car for the best view. The food is great and it’s a very relaxing experience. It’s best in the summer when it’s still light out late in the evening for the best view. Be sure to walk to the back of the train and stand on the outdoor platform during the ride (and wave at cars on Hwy-29) :) .

Sushi Mambo – $
Everything here is good. The sushi is fresh. Service can be hit or miss but the locals put up with it for the food. Order a lot of sushi and you’ll bump into the $$ range.

Rutherford Grill – $$

Favorite dish here is their Chicken Sandwich though the ribs, french dip, and veggie burger are great too. Try the corn bread and deviled egg appetizers and the oreo cookie dessert. Nice atmosphere too. This is very similar to the “Houston‘s” chain of restaurants, probably same parent company.

Cole’s Chop House – $$

Fantastic Filet Mignon, great fish of the day (usually halibut), and tasty desserts like Pecan Pie. Be sure to make reservations here by calling or using opentable.com. Nice wine and drinks will bump you into the $$$ range, I’m an iced tea kind of guy :) .

Pizza Azzurro – $

The caesar salad is good (fresh crisp lettuce, large croutons), as is the marguarita pizza, baked rigatoni, and manciatas. Might be in the $$ range depending upon what you order. It’s not a Pizza Hut.

Wine Spectator Greystone Restaurant (St. Helena) – $$$

Fantastic food here, top quality, and you eat in an old monestary overlooking a beautiful vineyard in St. Helena. This is a culinary academy and your food is being prepared by the region’s finest chefs. Casual fine dining (dressy casual). Reservations a must.

Pearl – $$

Seafood with daily specials like Mahi-Mahi or Ahi. Nice small, intimate restaurant, friendly staff.

Angele – $$

French country, great food. Fantastic Buf Bourgignon.

Barber’s Q – $

Fantastic Texas style barbeque sandwiches with cole slaw inside the sandwich served with a butter lettuce salad.

Celadon – $$

They have an excellent scallops dish for dinner, and a tasty cheese stuffed chicken breast. The food here can be a bit rich, lots of oil and butter in their sauces.

Taylor‘s Refresher (St. Helena) – $

This is a 50′s style outdoor-only restaurant (with picnic tables and a section with outdoor heaters) that serves really good comfort food, hamburgers, shakes, really good chicken sandwiches, soups, fish tacos, etc. Located north of Napa in St. Helena. They also have one of these in the SF Ferry Building in downtown San Francisco which has an indoor and an outdoor seating area.

  1. I beg of you, do NOT start making “food posts” a regular thing. I love your blog and I have to tell you that I absolutely detest those restaurant food close-up posts on JohnChow.com.

Might want to take it easy vic, blogging is about freedom of personal expression. If you “detest” against these articles, your freedom to remove yourself from this blog is also an option.

  3. Of course I realize that. That is why I have “removed” myself from John Chow’s blog.

  4. Paul says:

Oh no not another JhonChow. well I guess to have your supper deducted off your income… why not bore your readers.

    Paul. :-P

Sorry that I happen to enjoy dining out – a blog about business business business all the time is boring. So, you’ll find posts about what I like, my personality, stuff I find interesting, interspersed with business posts. I’m not a machine, I can’t write “50 ways to make a million dollars” every day.

  6. LOL, Scott, sure I understand that. There’s just something about closeups of plates of food that bugs me. Maybe it goes back to my childhood, I don’t know… :-)

I wouldn’t mind hearing about your hobbies or movies you like. And again I want to emphasize that I think you have an excellent site here. Very down to earth and non-sensational in your presentation of information.

Keep up the excellent work scott. I’ve would’ve never known that you owned resellerrating.com until I stumble onto your blog.

Modchipstore.com and Allmodchip.com were the businesses I enlisted on your service but too bad they’ve been all sold and now is in a huge decline due to new management :/

  8. Tutorial Blog says:

I must also plead with you not to make food posts a regular feature – please stick to internet business!

  9. Scott says:

If I was planning to make it a regular feature I would have posted pictures from one restaurant – this was a Napa eating roundup – I’ve already shown you photos of all the places I eat…

  11. Ritu says:

may be you should include the price of food along with the pics so ” average Joe’s” like us can look at fruit that never falls from the sky ;-)

Loved eating at Taylor’s last time I was up there touring a few of the wineries. A friend works in the industry so we toured Kuleto’s, Twomey, Larksmead and Frank Family vinyards but stopped at Taylor’s for food after Kuleto’s. Then we had dinner at Travigne which I am surprised you didn’t mention, after all Napa resident and Food Network star Michael Chiarello got his start there. Excellent food and great wine selection for the price.

  13. Scott says:

“may be you should include the price of food along with the pics so”

    I added a $ scale just for you! :)

“Then we had dinner at Travigne which I am surprised you didn’t mention”

I’m not a big fan of Travigne – ate their once and didn’t care for it, but I might have just ordered the wrong thing.

  14. All those dishes look so delicious and beautiful. I can also vouche for the Wine Train! :D

  15. is it me or your photos look super crisp. What camera do you use?

  16. Domtan says:

That dessert looks artistically delicious. Undoubtedly, it probably tasted just as good too.

  17. Want to eat all of this: so hungry now! :)

  18. Johhny d says:

How come you did not list the good resturants like the frnch laundry or bottega or how about bistro jeanty I could go on but I see you eat at mid level food joints
